Malacca is the famous historical city in Malaysia. Driving along the North-South highway, the journey takes about one and a half hour from Kuala Lumpur. The main exit to Malacca from Kuala Lumpur is the Ayer Keroh exit.

Along Ayer Keroh, there are many attractions that you must visit. One of the attractions is the Mini Malaysia. It is a park that portrays the rich cultural heritage of the 13 states in Malaysia. Visitors can see the delight and unique design of Malaysian houses of 13 different states in Malaysia. Malacca zoo, one of the popular attractions, has over 200 species of mammals, 100 species of birds and 22 species of reptiles. It is one of the well-kept and best rated zoos in the country. Now the Malacca zoo also opens at night, in which visitors have the chance to see the animals’ night life. Besides that, there are also Crocodile farm, Butterfly farm, and Mini Asean which all are worth visit.

The historical places that must visit are the A’Famosa and the St. Paul’s Church. Both of these places are situated next to each other in the middle of the Malacca town. A’Famosa was constructed by the Portuguese in 1511; the fort itself has suffered severe destruction during the invasion. Today the fort is just left with the entrance walls. St. Paul’s Church was once a prayer place for the Catholics but later turns out to be the burial ground. St. Francis Xavier was buried here before his body was taken to Goa, India.

The Stadthuys was one of the official residences for the Dutch Governor but now has become one of the famous attractions for visitors from all over the world. Just right in front of the Stadthuys building, there are many stalls that sell souvenirs and handicraft items. Besides, many colorful and well-decorated trishaws also available to be rode around the beautiful town at very reasonable price.

In Malacca town there are also shopping centers like the Pahlawan Mall which just newly opened in 2006. Just opposite this mall, is the Mahkota Parade. Both of these malls are the shopping paradise for shopaholics.

Apart of having lots of places to visit, food is also one of the attractions in Malacca. The famous local food here is the Baba and Nyonya style of cooking which normally spicy and served with rich coconut milk. Other localities are like satay celup, where stick of meat, seafood, or vegetables dipped into the hot boiled satay sauce. Chicken rice ball, a unique dish where the rice is being made like a shape of a small ball and be eaten with the fresh and juicy chicken meat. Oyster omelets (stirred fried egg with oyster) and otak-otak is the fish grinded with spices into paste and roasted in over the hot charcoal.

At night, visitors can pay a visit to the Jonker Street. Jonker Street is a street where all stalls gather during weekend to sell their own goods like souvenirs, handicraft items and localities food. Along the street, there are also pubs and shops that provide unlimited entertainment and night life for visitors. During special occasions, there will be performance on stage where you will not want to miss.
