Penang located at the north of Peninsular Malaysia is also well-known as “The Pearl of Orient”. Penang comprises of the island and part of the mainland. Both the island and the mainland of Penang are joined by the 13.5 km long Penang Bridge. With the unique design and architecture, the bridge has become one of the popular landmarks in Penang. As the Penang Bridge is the main entrance to the island for vehicles, the bridge is always filled up and busy with vehicles.
Komtar one of the prominent Penang landmark in Georgetown, is a 65-storeys complex with cinema and shops. On the 55th floor of this building it offers the panoramic view of the city of Penang. For the hawker food lovers, Gurney Drive is a place that shall not be missed. It is a heaven of hawker foods that opens from evening to night. There are many stalls with different type of local Penang food available here. To mention a few, the Laksa, Char Kuey Teow, carrot cake, oyster omelet, and others mouth-watering dishes at affordable prices and you can eat all you want from here. After eating the Penang delicacies, you can have a walk at the nearby complex - Gurney Plaza. The Gurney Plaza offers shopping paradise and entertainment for you all day long. Beach lovers that like to be away from the hectic and busy city can relax and enjoy your day at the beach. Since Penang is an island, going to beaches will just minutes away. One of the popular beaches is the Batu Feringghi. Batu Feringghi offers not only the scenic view but also suitable to play some water sports like water-skiing, swimming and canoeing. Visiting to Penang is not complete if you miss out the Penang Hill. Penang Hill is one of the places in the island that provides cool and refreshing air. As the Penang Hill is a few hundred meters above the sea level, to reach the top of the Penang Hill you can either hiking or take a ride on the cable car at the foot of the hill. For visitors who love the greenery and the lust of the floras, you can hike up to Penang Hill. There is a man-made trail that allows visitors to hike up to the hill safely. Besides that, cable car operates from morning till 9.30 p.m. with each round of every 30 minutes from the foot hill to the top and vice-versa. In the middle of the journey the passengers need to change tram as the cable car will not be able to move from the foot to the top directly. On top of the Penang Hill there are some stalls that sell food and beverages, souvenirs shops, a Hindu Temple and resorts. Visitors can enjoy the breathtaking view of the Penang from there. Besides that, other activities like jungle-trekking and bird-watching also available there. Kek Lok Si Temple, the Monastery on Crane Hill, is also a very famous tourist spot in Penang. This temple is situated in the Ayer Itam town and everyday there are many worshippers and visitors who come to visit and worship the god and goddess. During the Chinese New Year celebration, the entire Kek Lok Si temple will be strung with lots of colorful lanterns and lights. At night, when all the lights lit up, it is a beautiful sight to be seen. Located some distance above the Kek Lok Si Temple there is a dam, the Ayer Itam Dam. One can enjoy the scenic view or jogging along the scenic dam. Penang is a worth visit state Malaysia as it comprise of lots of attractions, cultures and local delicacies.
