Redang Island is one of the famous tourist attractions on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is located at the north of Kuala Terengganu, 22.2 km from Tanjung Merang. Tanjung Merang is the main departure point for visitor heading to Redang and Lang Tengah.

There are several ways to get to this island. Tourists can travel by plane, coach, train or bus.

By plane:
From Kuala Lumpur – approximately 45 minutes

By coach: – departed daily

From Kuala Lumpur – approximately 7 hours
From Johor – approximately 9 hours
From Singapore – approximately 9.5 hours
From Penang – approximately 9 hours

By car:
Distance from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu is approximately 455 km. Driving will be an enjoyable experience as along the journey tourists can enjoy the greeneries and the eye-catching scenery. Car park is available at the Merang Jetty with reasonable low prices.

By train:
There is no train service available to Kuala Terengganu but passengers can stop at Tanah Merah station which is the nearest point to Kuala Besut jetty. Passengers can take a taxi to Merang Jetty.



All of the above means of transport will reach Kuala Terengganu and from there need to go to Merang jetty to board on a speed boat to Redang Island. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes.

Redang Island offers a wide range of accommodation choices. To name a few, the Laguna Beach Resort, Berjaya Redang Beach Resort, Coral Redang Island Resort, and Redang Bay Resort. All of the resorts in Redang Island provide their guest with exclusive facilities like swimming pool, gymnasium, spas, and restaurants. Along the long stretch white sandy beach, tourists can enjoy sun-bathing.

In Redang Island one shall not miss to experience the water sports and activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, and skin-dive. This is because Redang Island is well-known as the Redang archipelago the world best destination for diving. It comprises of 9 islands the Lima Island, Paku Besar Island,, Pinang Island, Paku Kecil Island, Kerengga Kecil Island, Kerengga Besar Island, Ekor Tebu Island, Ling Island and Redang Island. There’s a wide variety of dive sites from beach dives off Pasir Panjang, shallow dives at Kerengga to deep and challenging dives at Big Mount.

For snorkeling the best location is at the southern coast around the Penang Island and Ekor Tebu Island. With the crystal clear blue sea you will get to see the colorful coral reefs and other marine life. Beautiful sea creatures including the batfish, angelfish, boxfish, butterfly fish, humphead parrotfish, squid, sea snakes, baby blacktip sharks, stingrays, giant groupers, moray eels, turtles, sea cucumbers and starfish can be seen here. If you are not comfortable going snorkeling on your own there are guides that can accompany you and give you and provide you assistance if you need one. Visibility of the sea creatures under the sea is generally depended on the sea condition. The excellent months will be from April till October.

Besides diving and snorkeling, visitors can charter a boat to hop around the island or to the neighbouring islands for sightseeing. Adventurers can go trekking through the island trails in Redang Island. It is probably one of the best ways to appreciate the island’s flora and fauna, some of which are rare species.

The other attractions in Redang will be the original ‘Mo Mo Cha Inn’ (More More Tea Inn) featured in the movie ‘Summer Holiday’ starring Sammi Cheng and Richie Ren. It was located between Redang Reef and Redang Beach resorts, where Laguna Redang now stands. Sunrise in Redang Island also shall not be missed. One can get to see the best view of the sunrise from pasir Panjang and the sunset at Teluk Dalam. If you are lucky together with the non-cloudy day, you will get to see the most picturesque sunrise here.
