Gua Tempurung
Gua Tempurung was highly recommended by my friends who just came back from there few weeks ago. Besides the nice view inside the limestone cave, it could be aventurous too if you take the wet tour which requires contact with the cold mountain water. I’m quite interested with the view, but not the adventure part.
On the way to Ipoh using trunk road, you will see the large sign board says “The Outdoor Haven” near Gopeng. Take a right turn if you are from Tapah direction; if you are from Ipoh direction, take a left turn instead. From the way they promote Gua Tempurung, seems like it has been commercialized. However, it was still under well maintenance unlike some other tourist attractions in Malaysia (you know la..)
There are 4 packages in total for your selection. Two are dry tours and another two are wet tours.
Dry tours:
1. Golden flowstone (40 minutes)
2. Top of the world (1 hours 45 minutes, min 5 pax)
Wet tours:
1. Top of the world & short river adventure (2 hours 30 minutes, min 8 pax)
2. Grand tour (3 hours 30 minutes, min 8 pax)
Also be reminded that proper attires are required for wet tours package. Sport wear and sport shoes are expected. If you are bringing your camera together, protection againts water is very important. Plastic bag might not be the most suitable protection here as it is easily torn. The proper way is to bring along a tupperware which can fit your camera. This is an advice from the tour guide who has seen many cameras gone during the trip.

Since there are only two of us, we have no choice but to select the Golden flowstone package. We were assigned to a tour guide in his mid-thirty who speak in Malay. With us is a family of 5 – one old couples, one younger couples with their daughter.
At the entrance, the tour guide open the gate which is locked when there is no visit. The purpose of doing this is to prevent visitors to enter without tour guide. It is not allow under any circumstances. He leads us in and start to brief us the history of the cave and how is a limestone exist after thousand of years.
The authority has installed lights and proper walk path in the cave. It is very safe to walk inside while experience the beauty of the nature. The tour guide has shown us a few special shaped limestones. There are elephant, tiger, ghost face, woman’s legs and so on.
The family together with us left after 15 minutes. The old couples refuse to climb any more stairs. It’s quite tiring especially if you do not go for sports regularly – like me. We are given extra time to take photo that day since there are no visitors after us.
Is Gua Tempurung worth to go?
My answer will be definitely yes. Why? For myself, I really appreciate the limestones and the caves which formed naturally after so many years. When I’m inside the cave, I felt like I was in a hidden city. Yes, like a caveman. If you do not like adventure or do not wish to spend too much time in it. i suggest you to take a Golden flowstone tour which requires only 40 minutes. Experience yourself the wonderful of the nature which formed after thousand years.
