Sekinchan, in Chinese means the ‘village suitable for plantation’ is well known as one of the major rice supplier in Malaysia. Before paddy plantation is getting popular, residents of Sekinchan were active in fishing activities. If you do not already know, Sekinchan is actually a fishing village. But, most of us have chosen to recognize it as a famous paddy field instead of a fishing village.

I believe most of us have seen paddy field before. But, have you ever get close to it. In Sekinchan, you can drive right beside the paddy fields. There are roads connecting the town with the small village located in the center of the paddy fields. Along the way, you will find water path(aqueduct), little bridge, birds and of course the paddy. Make sure your car is not blocking the road when you stop for photography.

There are also factories which allow visits. The staff will brief you on the paddy plantation process, type of rice and so on. You can also purchase the rice here which is not available in the market. Besides rice, you can also get nice mango at the stalls along Sekinchan main road.

On the other side of the road, the fishing village. You can also stop by to have a look at the fishing boats and jetty. If you like seafood, you are at the right place. You can also taste shark here. (I’m not sure if I should promote it here, but it is one of the food attraction in Sekinchan)

If it is still early when you are about to leave, Kuala Selangor could be you following destination.

How to get there?
Estimately one and a half hour drive from Petaling Jaya. You can follow NKVE and exit at Sungai Buloh. Next, follow Kuala Selangor direction. After passing by Kuala Selangor and Tanjung Karang, you are about to arrive at Sekinchan. Yes, look for the paddy fields which are supposed to be on your right hand side. On your left will be the fishing village.

Is it worth to go?
Strongly recommended for photographer. Blue sky and green field are waiting for you. If you are natural lovers or trying to get away from the city, it could be a good choice too. I would say it is very relaxing for the eyes and mind.
